A heated dog house always seems like such a good idea, particularly whenever we live in an area that experiences extremely cold temperatures. Although there certainly is nothing wrong with you choosing from among the heated dog houses that are available, there are a number of different things that need to be kept in mind whenever you are purchasing them. As a matter of fact, the options are not only going to provide you with additional buying choices, they are also going to provide you with choices that will be more or less healthy for your pet. Here is a little bit about the options available in the heated dog house and what you might want to consider.
Most of us that are looking at these houses for our dog are really only concerned because the weather gets rather cold in our area. The type of heat that is available in these dog houses is typically going to be some type of radiant heat that comes either through the floors or the walls. Whenever this is the case, you would at least want to make sure that you provide a buffer zone for your dog so that they are not coming in contact directly with the heated area. This will allow them to utilize the heat without causing skin conditions which may be difficult to treat. This is very necessary especially with dog house heaters.
Another option for a heated dog house that you may want to consider is that you can use the solar rays in order to heat the dog house naturally. As a matter of fact, sun hitting the dark roof on the dog house and using radiant heat can provide a considerable amount of warmth in the winter time. You would want to be a little bit cautious, however, because as the temperatures rise in the summertime it could create a very unhealthy environment inside of the dog house for your pet.
Something else that you may want to consider is that heated dog houses do not always need to be heated directly. A heated pad for dog house living is something that many people enjoy giving to their pets, but this can also create some problems of its own. A heating pad is going to be excellent for a dog that is suffering from some type of hip or joint pain, or perhaps arthritis. Having this heat directly against the dog skin, however, can make an outdoor dog rather uncomfortable because of drying their skin out.
One final thing that I would like to point out is that it is not always necessary to have a heated dog house when considering dog house designs at all. Heated dog houses are a good idea whenever you live in extreme weather conditions or if your dog is not going to be outside for the majority of the time. If you have an outside dog in a rather temperate weather area, however, these luxurious houses are not going to be necessary and may actually make it more difficult for your dog to get comfortable outside of their house environment.
